Carol's Travel Bug: first placed in RIP at the Crossroads in Virginia and wandered around this great state for over a year. Now she's back on the move again. She first visited Florida then hopped over to the BIG state of Texas!

HI, I'm Mom Cardinal--name is Carol. I don't usually get to go geocaching, something about me being too big for the geo-bag, but I enjoy hearing my children tell me about the places they go.

Caleb and Caitlin recently returned from a trip across the USA (from Washington State to Washington, New Hampshire) and one of my favorite stories they told me about was their geo-adventure to the "Sabbath History" puzzle cache in Washington, New Hampshire.

They arrived at the Historic Church about 11:00 am and noticed the sign said the church service started at 11:30 am so they hung around town for a half hour and then returned to the church.

They were the only visitors for the church service that Sabbath and after the worship time, the church hosts, Joe, Carla, Lynn, and Michael, treated the whole Cardinal family to a wonderful vegetarian meal (a totally plant-based meal; WOW, what a treat!). The hosts shared many stories and facts about the rebuilding of the church and also the Sabbath Trail behind the church and other historical places and buildings in the surrounding area. They then walked the Sabbath Trail and read the history inscribed on the stones and in the process, found the answer to the cache's puzzle!

The solved puzzle then sent them on another hike to the final cache location. It was a hike through the woods and then a scramble up many rocks to a view of the surrounding area atop Oak Hill. Caleb and Caitlin were so impressed with the area and its history that they convinced Floft (webmaster and our owner's son) to create a photo tour of the Sabbath Trail and Church and post it on his website: Sabbath Trail

Here is a view of the area from the top of Oak Hill:

Another place they traveled to that sounded really fun (not far from their home in Washington State) was their trip to Semiahmoo on the northwest tip of Washington State. This cache really sent the whole group on a wild goose chase. It was a multi-step cache and they miss-calculated the first coordinates and headed south down the beach.  After walking at least 1/2 mile, they decided they better re-read and re-calculate and sure enough they were headed in the oppostie direction of the cache.

At the far north end of the Semiahmoo Spit, there is a wonderful resort where you can stroll along the board walk and enjoy the flower gardens. After visiting the resort, the cardinals continued their search for the cache on the trail between the resort and the museum. They were excited to see several bald eagles soaring and one perched on a dead tree.

Can you spot the cache.  Can't quite see it in the picture but the views are spectacular from this bench.  They could see White Rock, Canada, across the bay and the Peace Arch to the northeast.
